Our Story

Driven by a love of animals, the environment and health, Vander Heyden I VDH Farms was born as a source of clean, natural and sustainably raised meat to support your health and well-being.

Grass-fed and finished means our animals never consume grain and instead are rotationally grazed on biodiverse, nutrient-dense pastures. Free from antibiotics, pesticides, insecticides, synthetic fertilizers, and everything you don't want in your body.

100% Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised Beef
vs. Grain-Finished Beef

A brief overview showing how farming practices shape cattle quality, nutrition, and sustainability.

Farming Practices

Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised Beef

Cattle are raised on open pastures, grazing on a natural diet of grasses, clover, and other forages. Regenerative practices like rotational grazing promote healthy soil, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.

Conventionally Fed Beef

Cattle are often confined to feedlots (CAFOs) and fed a diet primarily composed of grains, soy, and byproducts, often requiring antibiotics and growth hormones to manage health issues related to confined living conditions.

Nutritional Quality

Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised Beef

Higher in omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), antioxidants like vitamin E, and lower in overall fat. These nutrients are linked to reduced inflammation and improved heart health.

Conventionally Fed Beef

Contains higher levels of omega-6 fatty acids and fat marbling, which can contribute to dietary imbalances when consumed in excess.

Environmental Impact

Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised Beef

Rotational grazing helps rebuild soil, improve water retention, and reduce methane emissions per kilogram of meat. When done regeneratively, these practices can sequester carbon and restore ecosystems.

Conventionally Fed Beef

Grain production for feed contributes to deforestation, soil depletion, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. Manure management in feedlots also poses risks of water contamination.

The best beef we’ve ever had — and we know exactly where it came from.

We’ve been buying beef in bulk for years, but nothing compares to VDH Farms. The flavour, the quality, the way it's raised, it all just feels good. Knowing we’re feeding our kids beef without antibiotics, grain is priceless.

I filled my freezer and feel amazing knowing I’m supporting a better way of farming.

Not only is the beef incredible, but it’s so empowering to support a farm doing things the right way — for the land and our health. Delivery was easy, everything was perfectly packed. We're customers for life.

Premium taste. Ethical practices. Unmatched value.

We got the half cow option and couldn’t believe how much better this beef tastes than grocery store stuff. And the price per pound is way better when you consider quality and quantity. VDH Farms made it simple and stress-free.
